Lauren Wimbush is an award-winning filmmaker and archival producer focused on bringing underrepresented stories and perspectives to the screen. Her work spans compelling, thought-provoking nonfiction projects for film and television. Drawing on her extensive experience in archival research and producing, Lauren brings a deeply research-driven approach to nonfiction storytelling, with a particular interest in stories of Black history, culture, and memory.
Lauren served as Associate Producer on the Emmy Award-winning feature documentary Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool (Firelight/PBS), Producer of the duPont-Columbia Award-winning Birthing A Nation: The Resistance of Mary Gaffney (MTV Documentary Films), and Archival Producer on The Only Girl in the Orchestra, which won the 2025 Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Film (Netflix). In 2023, she received the prestigious Catapult Film Fund Research Grant to explore and develop a documentary project.
Lauren holds a B.A. in English from Amherst College and an M.S. in Media Management from The New School, where she specialized in producing, media business, and leadership. She is currently developing her directorial debut, continuing her exploration of stories at the intersection of Black history, culture, and the American experience.
